Solar PV feed-in Tariff

The Solar PV feed in tariff is designed to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to save money on their electricity bills. It also provides an incentive to switch from fossil fuels to a renewable energy source for electricity.

The feed in tariff is a government backed scheme which guarantees a premium rate payment to every household/business that feeds energy back into the national grid. The funding for the project is provided by the energy companies themselves who buy the electricity back, the money is then passed back to the homeowners/companies.

The UK government has made commitments to reduce its carbon emissions through the expansion of its renewable energy projects. The Solar PV feed in tariff is one of the first renewable energy projects to be announced.

As a home/business owner you have the opportunity to purchase a solar system which will provide you with electricity for your home/office and reduce your electricity bills. For every kilowatt generated by your system you receive 41.3p. Plus any surplus electricity produced by the panel will be fed back into the national grid and you receive a regular sum of money dependant on how much has been fed back into the grid.

The feed-in tariff programme is guaranteed to provide you with 25 years tax free income, as well as saving you money on your existing electricity bills!

The Solar PV feed-in tariff is available to:

Commercial properties
Households
Social housing
Local councils

Below is a chart showing how much a typical household could save over the 25 year period.

*cost based on the purchase and installation of a typical 2.35kWp system including VAT
**41.3/kWp as specified by the government plus 3pkWh from the energy suppliers as an export tariff and 14pkWh energy price (this may vary at times) Based on an average output of 1848kWh and 100% of energy consumed by the household.
*** stated as Feed-in Tariff export level set by government in article 14(6) of the Feed-in Tariffs Order 2010.
