What happened;

The Fletchers live in a 4 bedroom semi-detached in Knutsford and wanted to know how they could create their own energy whilst reducing the costs of their energy bills.

We contacted GB Energy to ask about alternative energy and to get a free home energy audit undertaken so we could assess all our options. They said our hot water supply for our home could be ran partly on solar power," said Mr Fletcher.

"GB Energy installed an energy efficient boiler, two solar panels and several energy saving light bulbs."

"We can turn the boiler off during the day when it’s light and the solar panel system then kicks in. It saves about a third off our heating bills every year. The process was really straightforward - GB Energy conducted a survey of the propery and the installation was completed in four days."

Better Life For Blackpool Man!

Name: Peter Lyttle

Project: Heat Pump.

What happened;

A disabled Blackpool man’s life has been transformed thanks to a heat pump installed in his flat.

Peter Lyttle, 51, lives in a flat in Bambers Lane, Blackpool, and suffers from osteo arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. He suffers from constant pain and has to frequently use a wheelchair and crutches to get around the flat. This means he requires constant heat as he particularly feels the cold due to his illness.

Mr Lyttle had conventional heat systems – a fan assisted electric fire and a portable oil heater - to try to keep himself warm. But even when using an electric blanket he still suffered from the cold.

With help from Lancashire-based GB Energy and National Energy Action (NEA) - the leading fuel poverty charity – he has had an air source heat pump installed in his home.

He said: “This new heating system has made such a difference to my life. People are always commenting now on how much warmer the home feels now. I suffer from constant pain and need to take medication for my condition, but there is no doubt that this heater has made me feel healthier. The home can actually sometimes get a bit too warm – a problem unheard of before this system was fitted.”
